New ThorpyFx Pedal. The Veteran Silicon

$

Here is a sneak peek for the fretboard: this goes live at today.

To celebrate our recent team up with the gear heaven that is Reverb, we are launching a special edition ThorpyFx Veteran (Silicon) edition. Very much in the mould of the Germanium pedal, the silicon pedal has been crafted to be as versatile as possible. You can get fuzz sounds that are aggressive and gnarly but within the same pedal it can give a nice overdrive too. The Fuzz coupled with an awesome "may" style silicon treble booster gives you even more opportunities for tonal mayhem.

This fuzz booster has some serious kick to it and I'm certain you'll enjoy it. Only 100 are going to made available in this reverb colourway.
Anyway enjoy, I had a lot of fun getting this right.

You can buy them here after 1500hrs (3pm) GMT:

https://reverb.com/uk/shop/thorpyfx-reverb-store

and there is an awesome video to accompany the pedal where you cans my ugly mug explain a bit about the pedal and more importantly you can hear it.

P.s. We have loads more to introduce at NAMM 2018 too so keep your eyes peeled.

A couple of interesting guitars I've made and can build for you:

1) Full scale Jag-Stang Deluxe:
it's a fixed & improved design. Wiped Fender's nose, cleaned the shape, fixed the inherent issues and problems. The result is a bold and daring fucker that wants to transform your pain into music. Very responsive (unlike Fender's design). Very instant, resonating. Long scale gives it more dynamics, it breathes when you play it on the brink of break-up. Long scale is very important there, as the active part of the guitar is longer (inbetween neck and bridge), and the butt that takes no positive role in the resonance is much less than that of a 24" Fender (and it looks overall more balanced and elegant). Finished in pure, true nitrocellulose. I check and make sure each and every guitar plays brilliantly (if it doesn't - I keep changing its neck until I find the perfect match for it).

These strat from £750.

2) I build a lot of lefty guitars. I play with both hands and feel it's important to produce LH instruments. Some photos of my work follow.

Building the impossible ... from Oil City

The brief: take two pickups from an Ovation copy ... harsh, thin and weedy ... and re work them into fat, powerful, modern rocking humbuckers.

The challenges ... the pickups are the same as fitted to some far eastern Gretsch models ... and the covers had to be reused. The ceramic bar magnets are a totally odd size ... so a quick swap to a standard alnico is out of the question. Sure you could use a much narrower SC size humbucker magnet with a filler iron shoe ... but the magnet mass would be well down, and so would the power.

After a lot of thinking and a couple of false starts, I decided to go for a 'mini wide range' approach: Both bobbin pairs would be replaced with custom laser cut flatwork

and rod magnets would replace the pole screws. Radical ... and requiring a lot of custom CAD design, but the only way to keep the magnet mass high.

The part completed bridge pickup 52mm bobbins ... the neck is more of a challenge as it is a totally odd 50.25mm spacing, and accuracy is critical.
To be continued .....

Magnetic Effects Zola

The Zola is a high headroom clean boost with a linear, transparent response. An internal voltage multiplier converts 9V internally up to 30V for unparalleled headroom.

The incredible 30V of headroom means the boost stays totally clean at all levels and can handle large input signals. It also makes Zola suitable for use in amp effects loops.

EQ flexibility is provided by the two band active EQ offering Boost and Cut ability to the treble and bass response. Use the EQ controls to fatten or tighten the low end, add presence or smooth the top end or match the EQ response between different instruments.

A powerful 20db of boost give you plenty of boosting ability. The Boost control can also attenuate the signal adding more flexibility. Use it at the end of your signal chain as a level matcher and tone enhancer.

FEATURES:

-  Ultra High Headroom

- Two Band active EQ

- Switchable buffered or True Bypass

- Top mounted Jacks and DC socket

- 9V adapter powered

- Voltage multiplier for increased headroom

- 100% handmade

Duoton Lo-Diver - meet the future new model

I called these the Duoton Lo-Diver and I guarantee that it's nothing like any other guitar you have played.

There's brand new technology that I'll reveal in a couple of weeks as #001 is being finished in surf green nitro.

In addition to the usual videos/audios, I'm thinking of doing a radically different promo for it - a live world tour. A responsible host in all key cities to receive the guitar, arrange an event where others would have an opportunity to see/hear/try the guitar, then carefully pack it and forward to the next host. What's your thoughts on that?

#001 has its own personal instagram
Facebook Page for the guitars

Well not quite,   I made this guitar for my hairdresser, in return for free haircuts the life, or until he retires, I go bald, or one of us drops dead. The Telecaster is made up of bits and pieces I've had laying around the workshop for some time. The neck is at least 10 years old never actually been used. The Swamp Ash body is about four years old, I kept forgetting to put in my clear out sales, its marginally over weight. Hardware wise, Gotoh M6 machine heads, CTS pots, with orange drop cap, switchcraft 4 way switch and jack plug socket, Wilkinson bridge, the pickups are Hot Rod T90's scratch plate from WD. It has been finish with gun stock oil.

Rift Amplification - Customer Builds

A thread for every completed amplifier coming off the bench. Everything is built to order so nothing here is for sale, unless stated otherwise.

Starting with one of my favourites, it's a Plexi 18 2x12" with added spring reverb, complete with footswitch. This one has a MV, TMB+Presence tonestack, and is loaded with WGS Green Berets. I only took one progress pic of the chassis, so not much to see apart from those lovely Jupiter Yellows

Guitar finishing services, restoration; custom nitrocellulose painted bodies; necks in East Anglia

There are a lot of talented people already known for their finishing skills on the forum so I have held off plugging my services here, but I've done a few deals recently and made a few posts and don't want to feel like I'm sneakily working the Classifieds for business means... Anyway...

I'm now extremely happy to be offering a full finishing/refinishing and custom build service from my workshop outside Norwich, using pro gear and what I believe are the most accurate recreations of vintage Fender custom colours available in the UK.

My speciality is the custom colour metallics of the 1960s – think Sherwood Green, Shoreline Gold, Burgundy Mist etc –  but I can source and spray or even custom mix pretty much any colour you want.

I shoot for NOS style factory-fresh nitrocellulose finishes, without relicing, all with meticulous preparation for a super smooth mirror gloss finish. I can offer ageing if it's desired but I keep it to a realistic minimum, using the genuine wear on my personal guitars as a reference point. Even my aged finishes are subject to the same exhaustive prep stages, so you won't see any lazy filling/priming jobs with bumps and grain showing.

I have regular stocks of UK-made CNC cut bodies in the popular 'F' shapes and specialise in Jazzmasters, Jaguars, but have a love for all guitars oozing vintage goodness! Prices for these will be starting around £240, with specials listed on ebay and Reverb and forums. I will also have a regular order with Allparts for their great quality necks and have contacts for custom neck builds. If you're in the Norfolk area I can also offer great setups and maintenance on all guitars, Fender offsets again my speciality.

If you have any work that needs doing or are interested in any of the bodies and necks below, just drop me a message through here. Website and social etc is all in the works, but I've been devoting more time to getting the perfect workspace setup and refining my skills rather than setting up the digital side of things this year, so am a little behind on that!

Refinish jobs start at £150 for a pre-stripped/new body but drop me a message to discuss.
Available for sale after sanding and buffing in a couple of weeks I will have:

Sherwood Green alder Stratocaster body - two piece, 1.8kg, 60s routs and contours - £250
Tahitian Coral over Desert Sand Stratocaster body, 2 piece, 2kg, 60s routs and contours - ready now after final swirl removal - £225
Ocean Turquoise Metallic Tele body, again alder, 3 piece, 2.1kg - 60s style - £250
Lake Placid Blue Tele body, alder, 2 piece (i think, will check), 2.1kg, 60s style - £250
Aged Shoreline Gold Tele body, alder, 1.9kg, 60s style (light ageing) £225
Burgundy Mist Jazzmaster with matching headstock Allparts JZRO neck - £465

I also have fully sealed and primed alder Jazzmaster and Telecaster bodies (one of each) ready for a custom colour of choice, price £225-250 dependant on finish.

and..

Unfinished alder Strat body, 3 piece, 1.8kg, ready to seal and spray in a custom colour - £225-250
Unfinished top-bound Telecaster body, 2 piece, 2.0kg, ready to seal and spray in a custom colour - £225-250

Necks: I have a few rosewood necks from Allparts in at the moment which I'm just about to start finishing. These can be finished to your spec and supplied with the fret ends dressed for £200 + shipping in the UK. Once I get my drill press back I will be able to install tuners, drill mounting holes etc.

SCR Nitro Guitars - Welcome to the Emporium

Hello everyone. The powers that be on the Fretboard have graciously allowed me to start new detailed thread which coincides with the business becoming a full time job for me. I will update this thread from now on. The other thread pretty much details the first 12 months of the business as a "part time" company however as I have mentioned elsewhere I have been working on it about 30 hours a week since the start of 2017.

If you're new to what I do, who I am and where im based ill happily tell you now. My name is Scott and I have been living in Northern Ireland for 17 years. At 34 years old its maybe a bit late to "go it alone" but ive certainly worked hard to get here so a lot more hard work wont hurt me I am into the 2 week lead in time now for going full time so id like to start the next chapter with a clean and concise thread. So, everything is about to get very different in my life. My working day will change dramatically and being my own boss will certainly take a level of discipline I know I possess. Implementing it, however, will take a lot of balance. Im sure im about to have a very stressful and changeable year ahead but hopefully I am on the right path.

Now, details about the business. Why "SC Relics"? Well, this is simply my initials and Relics married together. Id like to stress that "relics" does not mean every body is aged. It quite simply denotes that we work with nitro cellulose and the finish type is one that will naturally aged, wear and tear. We will probably create an alternative to "SC Relics" which will be "SCR Guitars". Hopefully this will cover a few more bases and no one will be put off by the word "relics".

Whats our online presence like? The website is a work in progress. Once the new camera arrives next week we will be photographing everything properly and detailing it online. Prices for services including refinishing will also be detailed as well as the various finishes, colours and styles available.

You can find the website at www.screlics.co.uk . We are also daily posters on Instagram which is tied to the Facebook page. Again, once the new camera arrives you will notice a massive leap in how I present the work I do. You can find the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/screlics and for Instagram its https://www.instagram.com/screlicsguitars/?hl=en .

I can be contacted on here, the website, Facebook and Instagram. Once I have a phone sorted you'll also be able to call me for a chat if needs be. It cant be bad to have a chinwag about guitars

Whats happening going forward? This is where it gets exciting.... a lot of investment has been made. I am currently finishing up with a batch of commissions due for pre Christmas delivery with more coming in for January. The largest stock order I have ever done is already being sprayed. A list of bodies that will be available are listed below. You'll the pickup configuration, wood type, body type and weight. I have also marked each body for the colour coat option I have chosen. This will go ahead unless someone request the body for a commission. I aim to have these bodies live and finished for sale at the start of January. They are priced at £225 plus shipping. I am also stocking a mixture of necks which will range from AllParts to custom made necks. I will be able to cater for anyone who wants to spend £225-375. With the custom necks I will be cutting my own headstock shapes for my own range of guitars I plan to release next year. Refinishes will also be accommodated from £150 which includes the stripping.

To help with the running of the business I have invested in a workshop which will facilitate all prepping and finishing as well as a display area/showroom for the finished pieces. This will be my new home away from home (well, about 30' from the back of my home ) so it'll be a very different working experience instead of working a typical 9-5 with a car commute. Id imagine a 5am start will give me a good chance of balancing the workload with spending more time with my children which is a massive part of this move.

I hope that gives you some insight into what im doing for any of you who havent seen the evolution of the business and if it was a boring read I can only apologise.... at least you made it to the end
